Waiting for winter

My last semester as an undergrad is coming to an end. I thought I’d never want it to be over, but now I’m counting the hours. It’s been a really dreadful semester, and right now I’m tired of working and I just want it to be over.

It’s funny that I mentioned “working”. The “work” that I do is paint, and as much as I bitch and whine about it I absolutely love to paint. It just feels like work when I do it now. I don’t want to paint for school anymore; I don’t want to paint abject figures anymore. I want to make something beautiful. I want to create delicate portraits, fantastic imagery, and breathtaking landscapes.

One thing that I’m excited about is an illustration project that I’ve created for myself. I plan to read a lot of literature and play a lot of videogames, but among all that reading and playing I’ll be sketching and eventually painting characters, scenes, and backgrounds from those stories. This project will be a gift to myself for a semester well-fought. I think it’ll be a nice break, as well as expand my mind and improve my technical skill.

And that’s just one of my many plans for the end of my undergraduate years. I’m usually pessimistic when it comes to the future, but I honestly see nothing but smooth sails ahead.
